Summer in the Alps is all about lakes, outdoor sports such as hiking and biking or just enjoying the wellness hotels with its panoramaic views. Temperature in the valleys usually reaches mid 20 °C in summer.

Salzburgerland in Summer has three completely different summers vibes: Swimming in the lakes of the Salzkammergut, Hiking the Glaciers or sightseeing Austrias most popular sights.
Tyrol
Summer in Tyrol is a hikers paradise. Both long range hikes as well as short kid and stroller friendly hikes can be found in Tyrol. Panoarmic views with world class wellness hotels.
Carinthia
Carinthia is best known for its summertime lakes, which boast a refreshing water temperature of around 20°C. Hikers, especially those with children, will find plenty to enjoy.

Eleven hotels we have paid for, ranked by what actually matters at 6pm with tired children: pool opening hours, kids’ club ages, and whether dinner works without a reservation.
Nine lakes measured with a thermometer, not a brochure. Which are warm enough to swim in June, which have free entry, and which two are not worth the drive.
Twelve walks with measured times, honest ascent figures and the gondola that turns each one from a day into a morning. Two of them should not be done with children.
FAQs about Summer in the Alps
Do I need a car traveling the alps?
While public transport is very good especially in Austria and Switzerland, its still advised to rent a car – so you can reach every destination on your own preferred time and you are flexible with your program. If you plan to stay in only one destination, then going there by public transport is a good choice.
Are the mountain lifts shut in summer?
Most gondolas run to mid-October, with a gap in May and November. Some gondolas, like to Kitzsteinhorn glacier or to Zermatt run year round. Please check the service times before you go to not be suprised by closed lifts.
